The Art of Floor Sanding (part 1)
Hi Floor Bore here.
Is floor sanding an art form?
Well i guess like everything (including washing the dishes) it can be!
It's a strange concept but the ultimate goal of sanding a floor is to give the impression that the floors were not sanded!
What do i mean by this?
Let us say you come across a bumpy oak floor with an old finish.
Firstly you may want to remove the varnish and flatten the floor.
However once this is done there will be scratches and marks made by the machines
Now we must go through the process of removing all trace (at least visible to the eye) of scratches and marks.
This is done by basically using finer and finer abrasives whilst being aware of any marks created by the various tools.
The result at the end is a floor that looks completely free of machine marks and scratches ...just the wood revealed in it's natural state.
